2006-2007 Dues and Delegate Structure for the
Kennebec Valley Organization

KVO's 2007 operating budget is about $102,000. Organizations like ours generally raise about one-third of their revenue internally from dues, ad books, special gifts from regional sponsors, etc. The more money we raise in dues, the less time and energy staff and leaders have to spend on fundraising, so groups typically try to raise 5-10% of their revenue from dues alone. Also, the more we rely on our own resources rather than foundations and other outside funders, the more powerful and independent an organization we can build.

Based on the policy adopted by KVO’s founding members, annual membership dues for the period from 11/1/07 to 10/31/08 will be:

Number of Active Households Annual Dues Number of Voting Delegates
550+ $2,144 30
375-549 $1,608 25
250-374 $1,072 20
100-249 $804 15
50-99 $536 10
25-49 $268 5
10-24 $134 3

As specified in our dues policy, dues amounts were raised 3.3% to reflect the federal Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). This change takes effect unless an alternate proposal is passed by a 2/3 majority vote of the Delegate’s Assembly.

"Active Households" means the number of households that are regular givers to an organization. In many Protestant and Unitarian churches, this is the number of "pledging units" plus other regular givers; in Catholic churches, the number of envelopes plus other regular givers; in local unions, the number of active, dues-paying members.

Member groups that make significant in-kind contributions to KVO, such as office space or equipment, may count the value of their contribution toward their dues payment, at the discretion of the Membership Committee. However, at least $134 of any member’s dues payment must be made in cash.

Dues will be collected on a quarterly basis.

Dues are not intended to keep any organization with a firm commitment to participating in KVO from becoming a member. Please speak to a member of the KVO Executive Council if the proposed dues are prohibitive for your organization. They may be reached directly, or through the KVO office at 873-5844 or kvo@gwi.net
