Now Hiring: Mid-Maine Time Bank Coordinator
Job Description

Reports to: K VO Staff Director

SUMMARY: The Kennebec Valley Organization  (KVO) is searching for a motivated, organized and outgoing person for the part-time (20 hours per week) position of Mid Maine Time Bank Coordinator. KVO is sponsoring this new organization based on a national model that empowers people to exchange their time, talents and labor on an equal, hour-for-hour basis. It will be based initially in the greater Waterville and Skowhegan areas. The Coordinator will work with the KVO Staff Director and a talented team of volunteer leaders, with technical assistance from an existing time bank in the Portland area, to facilitate the creation and day-to-day operation of the new Mid Maine Time Bank.

KVO was founded in November 2005 as a faith- and values-based, multi-issue organization of congregations, union locals and community groups in central Maine. Through these member institutions, KVO brings people together across lines of religion, geography, age, ethnicity and economic status to discover common concerns, and to develop skilled leaders to take effective action to address them. KVO campaigns have played a role in raising Maine’s minimum wage to $7.00 an hour, and increasing the number of police officers and other first responders in Kennebec and Somerset counties who are specially trained in mental health crisis response. Our current action campaigns are focused on the crisis facing workers, providers, consumers and future consumers of long-term care in the Valley. The time bank initiative grew out of KVO’s campaign to provide cooperative support to elderly and disabled community members struggling to maintain their independence, and the low-income and unpaid caregivers who assist them.

The Mid Maine Time Bank is a group of individuals who exchange services that utilize each member’s time, talents and abilities.  The exchanges are based on Time Dollars, a non-traditional currency that recognizes the equality of every member’s time.   Each exchange empowers individuals, enriches their lives and builds community.
